Tulsa Public Schools Board announces 2020-2021 school year safety plans

Given the continued COVID-19 global pandemic, Tulsa Public Schools is making changes to keep students, team members, and families as safe as possible. This evening, the district announced those health and safety plans for the 2020-2021 school year.

“Nothing is more important than keeping our students, team members, and families safe, and you will see some new safety measures in the 2020-2021 school year,” said Superintendent Deborah A. Gist.

Tulsa Public Schools will be prepared to provide all of the protective equipment necessary to keep the community safe, and this may include masks. The district will develop plans for reconfiguring spaces and classrooms to maintain social distancing practices and is working to create protocols for social distancing on buses and during arrival and dismissal times. There will also be additional cleaning procedures in place that may include hand-washing stations throughout buildings.

The district will add signs in all district buildings to encourage students, staff, and visitors to follow safety procedures including social distancing and frequent hand-washing.

Gist said: “We’re continuing to work closely with the Tulsa Health Department, and we will look to Dr. Dart and his team for guidance as we continue to plan for the upcoming school year.”
